Rescue - Shabbona Lake 2004

We are Illinois Chapter 17 of Muskies Inc., located in Northern Illinois. Our membership is not limited to, but includes families from 4 connecting counties: DeKalb, Kane, Kendall, and LaSalle (creating the "Quad County" name). We also have members from the U.P., Wisconsin, Georgia, and other parts of Illinois.

Members and the Public are welcome to come to one of our Regular Meetings, held the second Thursday of each month, at the Plano American Legion in Plano, IL.

We often have Featured Speakers who come to share their knowledge and experience on Illinois Lakes and Fishing.

Mission Statement

Quad County Hawg Hunters Chapter 17 of Muskies Inc. is an active, service-oriented, non-profit organization with the single focus of improving the sport of muskie fishing for men, women and children.

Our mission is to unite all muskie fishing interests for the promotion and protection of a high quality muskellunge sport fishery in the State of Illinois. We will accomplish this by stocking muskies in Illinois lakes, share muskie information freely between members of Chapter 17, adhere to timely submission of individual muskie catches through creel surveys, supply equipment to the State such as pit tags, predator nets, barrier nets, etc., sponsor a kids fishing day, perform muskie rescues at Lake Shabbona, work with the DNR to support area lakes, and to be a social group dedicated to the sport of muskie fishing.

We are committed to the abatement of water pollution, maintenance of records for muskies' habits, growth and range, and the dissemination of muskie information to everyone.      Adopted, May 2005

Quote

“Many fishermen regard the muskellunge as big game, a rare trophy that demands hours of patient searching and stalking.

Even if the angler can get close to a muskie sunning in a quiet bay, he knows the fish is not likely to strike.  A muskie routinely ignores lures passing within inches of its jaws.

Or, it may follow a lure to the boat, give the fisherman a menacing glare, then slip back into the depths.

But all the effort and frustration, all the hours of casting heavy lures and plugs, are suddenly forgotten once a big muskie is hooked.” Dick Sternberg
